Walking your dog down the isle

In Bakersfield many residents are owners of dogs. That's no surprise when considering that Bakersfield is one of the best cities to own a dog. Bakersfield supplies dogs with huge parks like the Riverwalk and huge backyards. Thus, many brides become very attached to their animal and feel the need to include them in their wedding party.

Pros:
If Fido is a very important member of the family, it's understandable to want to include him in the wedding. Dogs are typically obedient and loveable. If your dog however is an overprotective pit-bull you may want to reconsider having him at the wedding. Your dog will make the wedding more unique and guest will definitely love showering your pooch with affection.
Most dogs also do well with children. If you plan to include children in your guest list you can decrease their boredom (and your responsibility over the dog) by letting the kids play with the dog. This also creates many wonderful photo opportunities for the photographer. Kids and animals are very cute.

Cons:
Having a dog at a wedding relies on a number of crucial factors. Dogs are typically unwelcome to most ceremony and reception sites. That means that your only option is to have an outdoor or a home wedding. This can be troublesome if you plan to have your wedding during the winter or summer months where the weather might be too cold or hot.
Also, it's normal for things to go wrong on the big day. No matter how many obedience classes your dog has graduated from he will probably need to use the restroom in the middle of your ceremony (that's almost as inevitable as having your flower girl throw a temper tantrum). Odds are that your dog will also bark, pee, or just behave poorly while your attention is no longer on him but is on the minister and your husband.

If you do decided to include your dog in the wedding prepare to be flexible. Dogs can't be reasoned with due to their poor ability to communicate. It will probably be best to appoint a loved one or a family member to control or escort the dog away from the wedding. This way things will run more smoothly and you can focus more on being the bride
